Description: These three polygons represent priority mapping and survey areas for a NOAA, Deep-Sea Coral Research and Technology Program funded research cruise planned aboard the R/V Point Sur in October 2013. This research cruise was cancelled due to the partial government shutdown; however, discussions are ongoing as to if and when it can be rescheduled. These three areas, listed in order of survey priority, we identified from catch records of deep-sea corals and sponges, made during various research trawl surveys. Given the relatively deep water depths of these areas, there is a need for higher resolution swatch mapping imagery to better identify potential dive sites. The three polygons encompass a number significant observations of corals and sponges, either due to taxa interest and/or weight of catch.
